A while ago I polled my readers asking what the perfect age was to get their child their first cell phone. There was a range of various answers and ages. My boys are 18 months apart, and moving into the age where they can easily use a cell phone and may need to have one in instances where they need to contact me or their dad when we aren’t together.

As an incentive we used this simple chore chart to allocate data to the boys and divvy up the time when they could use their devices. When they did chores around the house like feed the cats, fold laundry, and make their beds I would allow them another gig of data. My boys really enjoy educational apps and games.
