Since I was a little girl, I have always created things. Before getting my first sewing machine when I was 8, I used to sew doll clothes by hand. I used to watch Martha Stewart as she made crafts on her show, and I even tried to mimic some of those same things as a girl. I’ll share a funny, but embarrassing story. When I was in 2nd grade I made a pair of sandals out of cardboard and fabric. I sewed the fabric to the cardboard cutout of my foot. I decided to change my shoes at school and wore them to an awards assembly. Those poor cardboard sandals didn’t stand a chance. They actually fell apart! I’m happy none of my classmates happen to remember that experience, but my sister does and she doesn’t let me live it down to this day. I’ve always been a maker of things, and for years I made all of BabyCake’s clothes. More recently I’ve gotten back into my handmade creations because it’s a passion of mine that really makes me happy.
Those same creations that make me happy, happen to be things that other people have requested from me as well for themselves. I decided, with the help of my husband and his graphic skills, to create MommyWeekMakes! You can find the “SHOP” tab on the home page of MommyWeek or head to MommyWeekMakes.com. There I’ll offer my handmade goods for sale and from time to time boutique items that I love. The first item up is this beautiful dress I made for BabyCake out of authentic wax print fabric from Ghana.
The first day she wore this dress, so many people stopped me while we were out to ask about it. Since it was highly demanded, I’m excited so make a few for some other beautiful princesses to wear.
Stay tuned for more unique and one of a kind items to be featured in my shop!
